Growing up as the eldest child in the family of five siblings, Heryza has developed a sense of independence and reliability. She is the pillar of support for her parents who would keep an eye on the younger siblings when her parents need to go to work. Moreover, having witnessed domestic violence in her mother’s past marriage, and experiencing several housing adjustments in her life, Heryza has a sensitive heart which encourages her to show care to others whenever she can.
Although she only has five dollars for pocket money each schooling day, she saved a part of it to buy a marker for her Maths teacher. This small gift symbolised Heryza’s thoughtfulness and gratitude towards her teacher’s support and spoke volumes of how a teacher’s thoughtfulness could make an impact on their students’ lives.
