A journey of perseverance and fortitude: After their marriage in early 2018, Mr. M and Mrs. L's foremost priority was to acquire a place for their children to call home. Their family is made up of six children, including those of Mr M's late wife.
Before being referred to KeyStart in August 2018, the family was renting a small two-room HDB flat that lacked adequate space, requiring their two-year-old daughter to spend most of her time at Mrs. L's parents' home.
While the couple managed to increase their income in recent years to support their family, their rental payments rose in tandem with the renewal of their HDB lease, compounding their financial woes. However, the family quickly adapted and viewed this as an opportunity to seek a new home through the acquisition of a mortgage.
Our conversations with Mr. M and Mrs. L revealed their unrelenting commitment to their children. They were driven to purchase a home in order to provide better living conditions for them. They, however, lacked the funds necessary to complete the needed housing repairs to make their prospective new unit habitable.
But, with the assistance of KeyStart's Basic Habitation Fund, the family was able to finance and find a new home, granting Mr. M, Mrs. L, and their children a new beginning.
